POSITION SUMMARY
Assists in the management of quality control activities for all phases of production, personnel and laboratory operations. Utilizes experience and interpersonal skills to identify and resolve deficiencies. Directs the shift’s quality control operations by scheduling and assigning workloads; and maintains close rapport with production to identify, solve and prevent problems affecting quality. Directs product quality surveillance of manufacturing areas, conducts periodic sanitation inspections and performs appropriate periodic bacteriological environmental inspections in critical plant areas; supervises special inspections of incoming railcars/trucks. Coordinates with production in the monitoring of packaging lines for the effective control of weights, metal detection, codes and product/packaging integrity. Coordinates and troubleshoots for product cooking tests, sensory tests, sampling needs, analytical tests and product specification measurements. Coordinates training programs and monitors progress projects; learns and implements new tests/procedures. Maintains effective records and files, summarizes data, and prepares and interprets reports for use by management.
 
HOURS/SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday, 2pm to 10pm (with flexibility for occasional weekend work when business needs arise)
 
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspect and audit equipment and production areas on a timely basis. Identify damaged/dirty areas and ensure corrective action is completed prior to start-up.
  • Monitor start-up production procedures, formulations and food handling practices.
  • Inspect process control points as well as monitors the quality of product during manufacturing and auditing. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve non-compliant product or situations through interaction with Production, QA management and USDA.
  • Provide proactive technical support and training for operational personnel; maintain quality systems to ensure a high degree of compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Responsible for skill development of Production personnel in general audit requirements, recipe procedures, GMP’s, bacteriological controls, maintenance, sanitation/equipment inspection, QMS, HACCP techniques, and Food Safety Management Systems to ensure effective controls are in place during manufacturing.
  • Establish, maintain and promote good communication/rapport with all departments, levels of management and USDA. Includes liaison with USDA QCI to manage daily regulatory activities.
  • Participate in the review and revision process to maintain the following control programs: NQMS, HACCP, QMS, and applicable DQM policies/procedures.
  • Responsible for the rejection or retention of substandard raw materials, in-process components, packaging materials, equipment and finished product that exceeds acceptance criteria and coordination of corrective actions. Responsible for the thorough documentation on a daily basis of all QA concerns in the daily logbook or forms.
  • Responsible for special projects or assignments that address current quality, value analysis, food safety, and regulatory or training issues. Includes full responsibility for defining, planning, completing, and implementing test work; reporting results within and/or outside the department.
  • Responsible for maintaining and coordinating the plant EQA program, consumer feedback programs and taste panel activities.
 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • B.S. Degree (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, etc.) is preferred
  • 3–5 years of Q.A. experience, in a food manufacturing facility preferrably
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, technical abilities, and decision making skills
