POSITION SUMMARY:
The Process Control & Automation Engineer role at Nestle USA is a key position in driving the current and future Automation at our factories. As part of the Engineering team, we have to assess, plan and deliver, together with factories, a solid automation strategy for the US market. Our team also focuses on continuous improvement of our production lines to reduce losses and improve yield. The use of new technologies, like Advanced Process Control and Data Analytics, will enable this progress.
The function consists in delivering the Electricity and Automation (E&A) part in Capital Investment (CAPEX) projects; doing so in line with corporate guidelines and regulatory requirements, enforcing that all E&A activities enhance business objectives, product quality and plant operation/performance while ensuring that people health and safety, product safety, and environment are never compromised. This includes the responsibility for:
• Project management
• Full compliance enforcement
• Product and process mastership
• Operational support
• Training and capability building
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
These activities include but are not limited to the following:
• Assess and analyze current conditions in NUSA factories related to the automation area, bringing a systematic and sustainable plan to return the target facility to their basic condition
• Execute the improvement plan with the full participation of the E&A team in the factory as well as other support teams like Quality, Industrial Performance and IT
• Apply new standards working closely throughout the global Electricity and Automation network
• Research, experiment and deliver the actual and future trends on Process Control and Advanced Process Control (APC), including new technologies like machine learning, data analytics, vision systems and robotics
• Lead market networks in Process Control to provide regular training sessions for the regional E&A community
• Support capital projects
CAPITAL PROJECTS
• Be responsible for the E&A capital project proposals including budget, scopes, justification, resources, schedules and required design and implementation efforts.
• Preparation of the technical and procurement documents, contract services, vendor documents, specifications, training requirements, technical support, etc.
• Execute the automation development of the project, respecting the necessary steps and creating the documentation needed (not limited to):
o Piping and Instrumantation Diagram (P&ID)
o User Requirement Specification
o Functional Description
o PLC and HMI coding
o Simulation
• In cases there are 3rd parties equipment involved, execute FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) at the suppliers’ facilities
• Execute / coordinate factory project commissioning
• Deliver post-project documentation and training to the factory team
During the project execution:
• Ensure that all personnel performing electricity or control related activities must be legally trained and certified.
• Ensure at all times the technical integrity/performance of the electrical energy supply and distribution.
• Ensure compliance with all Nestlé and government regulatory requirements. (International & local codes).
• Ensure at all times safe installations and operations through proper design, protection systems, procedures and training.
• Ensure projects will be delivered according to the Nestle maintenance strategy of electrical, automation and control equipment.
• Maintain liaisons with other functional groups (safety, production, quality, etc.) to get necessary support and expertise to meet business requirements and targets; energy conservation, legal compliance, asset intensity, capital investment, etc.
• Facilitate the introduction and implementation of new technologies in coordination with corporate engineering and R&D.
• Initiate and drive Continuous Improvement (CI) in electricity and automation with the aim of achieving optimized plant performance.
• Propose solutions to minimize use of energy and water in the production lines
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:
• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent, preferably electrical engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the field of electricity and automation in a manufacturing facility.
• Good knowledge of Instrumentation, Calibration and Process Control Systems.
• In-depth knowledge of Electricity, automation, instrumentation, industrial networks, low voltage systems, medium voltage and high voltage installations.
• Good knowledge of local electrical codes and standards
• Good knowledge of electrical safety
• In-depth knowledge of automation systems and equipment (HMIs, PLCs, etc.)
o PLC: Rockwell Automation
o HMI: Aveva/Wonderware
• Knowledge on technical drawing software, e.g. AutoCAD
• Knowledge of food processing operations and technology is a plus
• Knowledge on manufacturing IT, industrial networks and applications
• Knowledge of food safety and hygienic engineering is a plus
• Experience in supervision of technical teams
• Knowledge on MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is a plus.
