JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for managing the day-to-day sensory panel activities within the Solon NDC Center.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sensory Panel Leader will be responsible for leading trained sensory panelists on a daily basis and leading quantitative descriptive sensory studies with support from Sensory & Product Experience Specialists and Technicians.  This will include panel planning and training, panelist performance tracking, development of sensory glossaries, overseeing data collection, and completing quality checks on quantitative sensory data.  This position will also assist with basic statistical analysis, report building, and results presentation, as applied to our business partners in the Frozen & Chilled Foods category.  This individual will work closely with Sensory Panelists, Sensory Technicians, Product Experience Specialists, and other R&D and market associates to provide all sensory panel-related support to the business on a timely manner.

Management and training of sensory panels.

  • Supporting screening and recruitment of sensory panelists.
  • Designing sensory references
  • Planning, and executing sensory training sessions
  • Ensuring high data quality by monitoring panel performance with the assistance from Consumer Sensory Insights Specialists

 

Planning and execution of tasting sessions.

  • Managing samples and sensory references as needed for panel training and testing sessions
  • Planning, scheduling, and running assigned panel sessions.
  • Assisting technicians as needed to prepare and serve samples to the panel according to instructions.
  • Developing tasting procedures and methodologies with Consumer Sensory Insights Specialists.
  • Creating test ballots
  • Running basic statistical analyses.
  • Managing sensory portion of shelf-life studies.
  • Summarizing and reporting results (simple reports).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):

  • BS or BA in Food Science or related field.
  • Technical training in QDA analysis.
  • Experience in quantitative descriptive panel training and moderation is a plus.  
  • Strong computer skills: MS-Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook). Sensory data collection and statistical software (e.g. SIMS 2000, XLSTAT, Eye Question, FIZZ, SAS) is a plus.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and reporting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Flexible work hours, as required by the business

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

A proactive independent person able to lead/manage/complete projects with minimal supervision. Creative and innovative with a sense of urgency and passion. There will be at least two formal meetings with the supervisor to evaluate the progress toward the goals.  There is also the opportunity to work closely with other members of the team for guidance. There will be formal training sessions set up for all newcomers to Nestlé as well as specific courses required as an R&D employee.  The supervisor will set up a training plan, and it is the responsibility of the individual to execute the plan.

 

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

This individual does not have any direct reports but should be able to lead/mentor team members in projects that he/she is leading.
