Facility Quality Specialist – NDC Solon

 

The Facility Quality Specialist is responsible for supporting Site Quality and Food Safety programs for frozen and chilled foods produced at the Nestle Development Center (NDC) in Solon, OH.  Specifically, this position leads food safety programs in the areas of Supply Chain Controls, Training and Development (Quality & Food Safety), Equipment Calibration (limited scope) and Laboratory Support. In addition, this person will participate in the Site Food Safety Team meetings and will support the raw material risk assessment in the local HACCP study. This position will work cross functionally with stakeholders both at the NDC and in the local market. Reporting to the Site Quality and Food Safety Manager, the Facility Quality Specialist will have the direct ability to directly impact product quality and food safety.

 

Quality:

•    Follow and carry out company Quality Policy on all required Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), quality and food safety requirements.

•    Escalate quality or food safety findings or incidents to management.

•    Ensures the compliance for FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 while driving continuous improvement for Quality metrics/Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in their area of responsibility.

•    Coach and train cross functional stakeholders in attaining Nestlé quality standards.

•    Responsible for reviewing and updating site policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance to Nestlé standards.

  • Supports operations in decisions related to quality and food safety.

•    Audits GMPs, procedures and paperwork on the production floor.

•    Participates in and/or lead problem solving and continuous improvement activities.

 

Supply Chain Controls:

•    Responsible for releasing raw materials and packaging in NesTMS for trials and serving as a back-up for Finished Product release.

•    Report out detailed information/metrics in their area of responsibility to drive improvements in Quality systems

•    Participate in traceability exercises, product trace and mock recall procedures

•    Lead root cause analysis and provide information on deposition decisions for held raw materials

  • Participates in the Site Food Safety Team including support of the raw material risk assessment.
  • Supports the temperature monitoring program for onsite refrigerators and freezers.

 

Training Champion

•    Works with stakeholders to develop and track progress against an annual training plan for Site Quality topics.

•    Develops training content in their area of responsibility

  • Participates in Site Quality led Food Safety culture initiatives

 

Equipment Calibration:

•    Responsible for leading and executing annual calibration program for scales, weights and thermometers

  • Works with Site Engineering to ensure AAM is kept current and up-to-date for assigned equipment.

 

Laboratory Support:

•    Develops and trains NDC Solon Scientists and Engineers on Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and other SOPs associated with the Cereal Science or Analytical Chemistry Labs

•    Responsible for leading and executing laboratory internal control plan including the annual calibration and preventive maintenance program for laboratory equipment

  • Orders and maintains inventory of reagents and supplies in the laboratories

•    Functions as the single point of contact for questions related to testing conducted at NQAC Dublin or a third party lab.

 

Safety & Environmental:

•    Ensures compliance with all regulatory and Nestlé guidelines pertaining to safety, health, and environmental. 

 

Qualifications:

 BS or MS degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Engineering or other applicable technical field.

 

EXPERIENCE:


• Minimum 3 years experience in CPG, Food Industry or Quality/Food Safety field with either direct QA or quality intense project experience.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:


• Must have strong and demonstrated coach & develop skills, courage and the ability to influence with integrity.


• Must have knowledge and understanding of food safety / HACCP, GMP’s and food safety regulations (USDA and FDA).


• Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with minimal direct supervision and have strong demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and self-initiative skills.

 

  • Must be detailed and results focused with a customer/consumer centric mindset.


• Strong demonstrated verbal / written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.  

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:


•Experience with SAP and NesTMS software preferred.


•FSMA PC Human Food PCQI, FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor or similar Food Safety and Quality Systems training


• PC proficiency in Windows-based applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams
