Position Summary

Responsible for the strategic direction of Nestlé’s systems for recycling (S4R) programs, including deposit return systems, extended producer responsibility, and recycling / circularity sourcing strategies.  In this role, you will lead an expert team of professionals to deliver solutions for business and ESG commitments in packaging sustainability and recycling through key strategic relationships across with cross-functional leads and external stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead strategic direction for Zone North America’s systems for recycling (S4R) strategy, material recovery, innovative materials, circularity, and deposit return systems, including regular communications around sustainable sourcing and sustainability activities between internal partners and external organizations.
  • Leads negotiations and interactions with material recovery facilities (MRF), processors, converters, and external stakeholders, in collaboration with TAG, Nestrade, PS, and Sustainability teams, to deliver on end of life sourcing strategies and commitments.
  • Lead interaction with partners and stakeholders and generate innovative models to secure new materials, such as Closed Loop Leadership Fund.
  • Manage the Nestle North America Infrastructure Network, working closely with the Zone NA Sustainability Leaders to ensure alignment amongst Nestle packaging commitments, credence attributes, and Zone NA ESG strategies.
  • Strategically manages bottle deposit programs, as well as advises on procurement strategies for recycled packaging materials under a closed loop / circular economy model, in support of North American operations.  
  • Nestlé 7-Step Strategic Sourcing Process (7SSS) Implementation (Self and Team)
    • Confirm recycling and circularity objectives, issues, market analysis, etc. and represent them to Category Teams to shape planning and execution.
    • Advise on strategies to secure innovative materials, such as rPlastic, fiber, bio-based materials, etc. to meet business goals and objectives.
    • Establish and ensure the achievement of the strategic directions, objectives and critical metrics recycling and material recovery.
    • Lead change management activities that support the sourcing strategy and facilitate execution to drive compliance and commitments on sustainability.
  • Management of Category Mgt Specialists.
    • Talent and Performance Management System Development (Personal Development Guide, Performance Evaluation, Engagement Check-in and 360 Assessments).
    • Everyday coaching – Ongoing mentoring to staff.
    • Establish meaningful key team objectives in support of Nestlé cascading measures.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years experience in recycling / sustainability topics.
  • Knowledge of recycling infrastructure, rPlastics and innovative packaging sourcing.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful leadership, coaching, communication, strategy development and execution, and compliance management are critical to role.
  • Proven ability to manage and navigate change with an ability to work across boundaries and boarders, strong decision making.
  • Excellent communicator, detail oriented and self-starter.
  • Analyze and present findings in a clear and cohesive manner with a proven ability to gather business material and service requirements and translate into strategies and plans.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently to identify and research relevant market industry, and supplier information.
  • Required proficiency in Microsoft Suite products, including but not limited to, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
