Position Summary

For thirty years, Nestlé Purina has been proud to call St. Joseph, MO home to two facilities, a wet pet food factory and our Product Technology Center (PTC) dedicated to research and development. The PTC is home to dogs and cats who help us learn, research and better understand the well-being of pets all while enjoying the best quality of life. Located an hour north of Kansas City, the community of 77,000 people is packed with character and a rich history – just like Nestlé Purina is. As a Trainee, PetCare Technician you’ll be responsible for organizing and performing necessary work on palatability testing according to requested protocols and recording all data outlined by the project Scientist. By maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment you’ll be a be able to ensure we practice safety in the workplace.

 

  • Knowledge of and compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and all procedures and protocols in the Nestlé Purina R&D Petcare Manual
  • Adherence to Nestlé Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Perform all necessary cleaning and sanitation duties
  • Assign rooms in data management system and process palatability tests
  • Organize incoming food for trials
  • Perform grooming
  • Obtain animal body weights and body condition scoring as required
  • Provide socialization programs for pets
  • Assist with care for and monitor growth of pets as needed
  • Report to the veterinary staff sick pets or unusual behavior observed 
  • Report any broken or damaged equipment, item or physical area
  • Perform minor troubleshooting of facility equipment
  • Assist with minor veterinary procedures (e.g. exams)
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment and practice safety in the workplace
  • Actively participate in training and skill development as needed 
  • Work in a team environment
  • Data Entry 

 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science or related field OR High School Diploma or GED equivalent and minimum 2 years of experience with animal husbandry and regular care of animals is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and in a team is preferred
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, organization and math skills are preferred
  • 1+ years of training or experience in animal science, veterinary technology, or animal handling, grooming or behavior is preferred
  • Body Condition Scoring Certification is preferred
