Position Summary
The Nestle Development Center (NDC) in St. Joseph, MO is home to dogs and cats who help us learn, research, and better understand the well-being of pets and promote the human animal bond. When you join us, you'll work to ensure our pets have the best quality of care while participating in cutting edge pet food research. Research that contributes to innovative, first to market dietary solutions as well as trusted all life stage pet food. Our center is located near the metropolitan area of Kansas City, within 30 minutes of the Kansas City International airport. St. Joseph is a tight-knit, rural community packed with character, still within commuting distance to the city thus, providing many residential opportunities.
As the Safety Manager for our Development Center, you’ll serve as the site's safety leader, providing strategic direction, technical expertise, and day-to-day oversight of the Safety Management System (SMS) ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, ISO 45001 requirements, and Nestlé safety standards. Fostering a proactive safety culture, you’ll ensure regulatory compliance, and partner with leaders and associates across the organization to identify risks, implement sustainable solutions, and building on our strong base to continuously improve safety performance. Leveraging strong safety management experience, you will support the unique needs of an evolving R&D environment that includes laboratories, pilot plant operations, grounds, and office spaces.
- Utilize deep safety and compliance expertise to assess risks across laboratory, pilot plant, facilities, grounds, and office environments, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and maintained
- Drive employee awareness, engagement, and accountability through site-wide safety initiatives, campaigns, training programs, and events that strengthen the site's safety culture
- Partner with leaders and associates at all levels to influence positive safety behaviors, build trust, and drive sustainable improvements in safety performance
- Lead investigations of work-related incidents, near misses, and safety concerns using Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) problem-solving methodologies and manage injury reporting, workers' compensation, associate support, and return-to-work processes to ensure timely resolution and prevent recurrence
- Maintain the OSHA 300 Log and internal reporting as required by Purina Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the certification requirements of ISO 45001
- Lead implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes to ensure effective identification, communication, and mitigation of workplace hazards by all team members
- Collaborate with development centers and safety professionals across the organization globally to share best practices, leverage learnings, and drive continuous improvement
- Lead and develop the Site Safety Coordinator through ongoing coaching, development planning, performance feedback, and alignment with site priorities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of experience leading OSHA compliant safety programs at a site or facility level within industrial, manufacturing, military, government, Research & Development (R&D), and/or similar environments
- 2+ years of experience managing workplace injury cases, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work processes
Other
- Experience supporting ISO45001 certified environments is preferred
- 2+ years of relevant supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
- 2+ years of experience in a professional Safety & Health role within an R&D and/or multi-functional environment is preferred
- Professional certifications related to the Safety Health and Environmental field are preferred
Salary: $79,785.00 to $136,797.00 per year
Bonus Eligibility: Yes
The pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities as well as geographic location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at top of range.
