The Public Relations Strategist role falls within our PR Issue and Crisis Management workstream, which is part of the Corporate Public Relations Team. This team is at the center of it all, working to protect, promote, and influence stakeholder perception of Nestlé Purina PetCare Company (NPPC) and its brands.
As a Public Relations Strategist (Senior Manager), you are responsible for supporting Nestlé Purina’s corporate communications activities, with a focus on issue and crisis preparation, prevention, management, and improvement. You will execute a best-in-class strategy to mitigate risk and protect the reputation of the company. This is a strategic position that will require you to play a key role working collaboratively and cross-functionally to manage issue-related communications and create company statements. - Serve as a key member of the team developing strategies and plans to prevent and mitigate sensitive issues and crises with potential to damage NPPC’s reputation or business continuity.
- Work with internal teams and external consultants on protocols to identify, flag, monitor, and prioritize issues as well as develop proactive and responsive tactics
- Take the lead in PR-based scenario planning and assist with governance of our crisis preparedness
- Explore opportunities for continuous improvement specific to issue management
- Collaborate with business partners and internal experts to define company’s position on various issues while maintaining a statement database
- Draft position statements, key messages, and Q&A that meet company standards on tight deadlines
- Route content for review and incorporate feedback from subject matter experts such as veterinarians, scientists, quality assurance, and regulatory leaders
- Partner with customer support on complaint escalations and those responsible for the day-to-day engagement on Nestlé Purina-owned social media platforms, ensuring they are aware of potential issues and the strategy to address
- Draft real-time responses in cooperation with appropriate parties, with limited supervision, regarding issue-related messages on social media, including, but not limited to sensitive statements or questions
- Coordinate closely with brand marketing teams, customer support, subject matter experts, and others to keep messaging accurate and on-brand
- Review external communications to ensure communication guideline compliance

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or related field
- 10+ years of experience with in-house or public relations agencies and an emphasis on corporate communications, issue management, and/or crisis communications
- Occasion travel, up to 5% or as business needs
