Position Summary

 

We have a new opportunity at our Cereal Partners Worldwide site in Staverton; we are looking for a Product Development Scientist to join the R & D team to lead the development and industrialisation of new and existing breakfast cereal products through formulation and process changes within the UK and EU region.

A day in the life of...

 

Reporting into the R&D Manager, you will be a pivotal part of developing new cereal products as well as improving current products to drive growth and competitive advantage in the category.

 

Other key responsibility will include: 

 

•    Identify cost-saving opportunities on current product portfolio, support scoping and prioritisation discussion 
•    Manage R&D projects from development to start-up.
•    Use consumer insights and intuition to develop products that delight consumers.
•    Interact with the other R&D teams worldwide to ensure proper project scaling-up and industrialisation.
•    Designs, organises and executes pilot plant trials, factory trials and start-ups. Produce prototypes samples for review or consumer learning. This can lead to approx. 30% travelling time in average across our 8 European sites.
•    Represents and advocate on behalf of R&D in cross-functional Project meetings (with Marketing, Operations, Finance). 
•    Complete proper Knowledge Management throughout the project lifecycle.
•    Capture and share all key learnings and contributes to the knowledge base by documenting findings from projects and pilot plant and factory trials.
•    Stay agile as you be working across a wide range of development topics – formulation, processing, nutritional & regulatory requirements, quality as designed, and food safety, but also a wide range of process technologies – extrusion, batch-cooking, flaking, etc…
•    Provide technical solutions across a wide range of innovation and core renovation projects.
 

What will make you successful

 

To be successful in this position you need to demonstrate passion for food, agility, collaboration and ability to be pragmatic.

 

Other key attributes are:

 

•    Educated at Degree level (preferably Masters Level) in a food science or chemical engineering discipline or equivalent.
•    Working experience in food industry and multinational company as a product developer scientist is essential; experience in the cereal industry will be an asset.
•    Experienced in working with cross-functional international business teams.
•    Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and principles.
•    Good resilience to time pressure.
•    Ability to deal with various stakeholders (Marketing, Operations, etc).
•    Fluent in English, proficiency in other languages is preferred, but not required.  
•    Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
