Position Summary:
Facilities Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring reliable, safe, and compliant operation of building systems, utilities, and production‑support infrastructure. The role safeguards food safety by design by maintaining the building infrastructure, minimizes downtime, and supports manufacturing productivity and compliance by maintaining equipment such as HVAC, fire safety system, CCTV surveillance, building infrastructure, warehouse conveyers, facilities piping etc. This role is a key contributor for implementation of programs to strengthen food safety compliance, and continuous improvement culture following the Nestlé Maintenance Strategy. This position is an existing vacancy
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facility & Utility System Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance for assigned areas and equipment. Conduct facility walks, inspections, and infrastructure condition reviews.
- Maintain work areas to Nestlé Quality & 5S Standards and prevent waste of energy, materials, and resources.
- Ensure proper functioning of auxiliaries like Fire alarm system, warehouse conveyers, CCTV system, dock levelers, access control system etc.
- Diagnose issues and perform repairs to minimize downtime. Maintain records of repairs and inspections.
- Oversee building systems performance, energy usage monitoring, and cost‑reduction initiatives.
2. Food‑Safety‑Focused Maintenance Activities
- Lead closure of infrastructure related gaps identified in IPM (Pest Management audit) to support food safety and food defense.
- Ensure all repairs comply with GMP, HACCP, allergen management, and sanitation expectations typical to Canadian food plants.
- Perform and document safety inspections consistent with food manufacturing standards and statutory requirements e.g. water line backflow prevention devices, asbestos study etc.
3. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Implement PM programs to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life for HVAC and other building management systems, schedule regular inspections and upgrades.
- Develop preventive maintenance procedures for facility infrastructure, utilities, and production support assets.
- Monitor system functionality to identify improvements or required upgrades.
4. Compliance & Safety Leadership
- Comply with all Nestlé personal safety and food safety regulations, including SHE, LOTO, chemical handling, and permit‑to‑work requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian building codes, TSSA (Technical Standards & Safety Authority), OSHA, and provincial regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
5. Contractor, Vendor & Cross‑Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized maintenance, repairs, utilities, and capital projects.
- Collaborate with production, warehouse, engineering, QA, and sanitation teams to prioritize work and minimize disruption.
- Supervise skilled trades personnel, including pipefitters, carpenters, and HVAC assistants.
- Manage contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with facility requirements.
Role Requirements:
- Technical diploma/degree in Mechanical/ Civil Engineering.
- 4+ years of maintenance or facilities engineering experience, ideally in food processing or manufacturing.
- Experience with HVAC, electrical systems, building automation systems (BMS), and industrial mechanical systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and hands‑on mechanical/electrical aptitude.
- Familiarity with CMMS or SAP‑based maintenance systems.
- Experienced working in a unionized environment.
