Position Summary

 

We are looking for an Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness Specialist based at our Sterling Rd factory reporting into the Safety, Health and Environment Manager. This role will be responsible for

A day in the life of an Occupational Health & Wellness Specialist

This role will be responsible for the on-going development and enhancement of the factory’s Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness program. This involves providing technical support, training, implementation, maintenance of the programs, and development of occupational health and wellness program to support the elimination of workplace injuries and illnesses.

 

You will also:

  • Lead and Coordinate ergonomics assessment, audiometric testing, respirator fit testing and other industrial hygiene programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in monthly JHSC inspections and meetings.
  • Support in the investigation of work-related accidents and the closure of safety tags created from unsafe conditions.
  • Coordinate new hire training for the shopfloor employees.
  • Lead and coordinate the modified work and rehabilitation programs.
  • Participate in job evaluations, and support in completing physical demands assessment when required.
  • Support in administering first aid and investigation of work-related incidents.
  • Participation in daily operational review meetings on the production floor, promotes safety objectives and goals, and fosters good relationships to gain commitment from all employees.
  • Manage Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Case Management, health-related absences, and the early return to work program.
  • Assist in administering first aid and facilitate return to work plan.
  • Organize and implement health and wellness initiatives to promote employee well-being.
  • Provide support to the SHE team in various administrative tasks.

 

What will make you successful?

  • Post-secondary education in occupational health & safety.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills, good initiative skills, interpersonal abilities, and effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in a unionized work environment.
  • To add skills on boldness and courageous conversations and also fast paced environment.
  • Capacity to work efficiently with minimal supervision, while thriving in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and can work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application
  • Flexible to work on different shifts as required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • At least 2 years experience in a safety, health and wellness field.
  • Good to have Working knowledge of pertinent legislation (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Canada Labour Code)
