Our position:

 

The packaging and distribution of liquid consumer goods in a competitive market environment is a challenging task for manufacturers. This is due to the ambition of constantly decreasing the bottle weight for cost and environmental reasons. The bottles are commonly distributed as grouped packs on wooden pallets, which need to withstand the dynamical loads during transportation. The state of the art packaging development needs to incorporate those requirements and evaluate the performance of new packaging solutions. The student will be part of the packaging team and contribute to packaging development using finite element analysis (FEA) on bottle level. 

 

 

Your daily mission:

 

The student will contribute to the optimization a FEA model of the bottle. The aim is to analyze the accuracy of the model and to test different paths for accuracy improvements. 

 

This includes the following tasks: 

 

  • Numerical Analysis of different structural problems on bottle level the existing FEA model;

  • Systematic Design of Experiments and subsequent data analysis;

  • Experimental verification of the outcome of the simulation and iterative improvement of analytical and of the numerical methods. 

 

 

Requirements:

 

  • Prepare a Master’s or Diploma thesis and you should also have studied materials sciences (at least metals and plastic materials);

  • Have Experience using Finite Element Analysis software (preferably ABAQUS) and a minimum experience in programming (preferably Python) ;

  • Are curious, interested and able to acquire quickly new tasks and able work in an international team;

  • Have excellent mathematical and analytical skills, a proactive attitude and good communication skills.
