Position Summary

 

We have a fantastic opportunity available, our Nestlé Petcare manufacturing site based within Wisbech, Cambridgeshire have an exciting major Capex Investment project starting very soon, supporting the site to expand even further, we are looking for a talent Safety and Health Coordinator to join the project team to support us with the implementation and start up phases of the project.

A day in the life of a Health and Safety Manager - Manufacturing and Construction

 

Reporting into the Project Engineering Manager, you will ensure excellence in safety, health, and environmental sustainability during construction. Develop and communicate the Project SHE Management Plan and ensure its effective implementation. Monitor site standards, recognise good performance and challenge and address poor performance. Communicate with local authorities and communities as well as Nestlé management. 

Key responsibilities of this role

•    Ensure compliance with local SHE legislation and Nestlé SHE standards and principles by ensuring SHE is integrated into project planning, operational reviews, design-for-construction, and contractor management. 
•    Develop the site SHE Management Plan and communicate to project management and contractors.  Ensure the plan includes effective risk management procedures for worker orientation & training, risk assessment, method statements, lifting plans, permit to work, emergency planning, etc. Modify the Plan as required during the project to reflect changes in risk.
•    Ensure the site is under control with secure access, safe access and egress routes, correct signage and with relevant risks effectively managed.  Ensure high standards of health & hygiene conditions for workers, with appropriate emergency medical response.
•    Ensure implementation of project risk management procedures.  Ensure that specific safe working practices are in place with a focus on high frequency risks (i.e., slips, trips, falls, injuries from sharp points and edges) and high hazard tasks (i.e., work at height, critical lifting, hot work).
•    Ensure training and coaching is provided to managers and team leaders to develop their knowledge of risk management, legislation, and duties. Provide personal coaching and support to the Site Management Team.
•    Ensure managers receive trusted guidance & support on SHE matters.  Identify and leverage expertise and good practices from inside and outside Nestlé.  Co-ordinate internal & external resources to deliver high quality and efficient SHE support, i.e., exposure monitoring, health promotion, health surveillance, training.
•    Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed, and the results used to drive further improvement. Promote effective communication of successes and learnings, and recognition for strong performers and contributors.
•    Engage with stakeholders (i.e., contractor representatives, trades unions, local regulators, local communities, and local NGOs) on SHE topics to build positive relationships.

What will make you successful

 

To be successful you will either have previous experience within a project engineering department or experience within a fast-paced FMCG Manufacturing environment focused on process related activities. 

Other key attributes would be:

•    Taking ownership of SHE and drove change through personal leadership.
•    Led SHE activities in a multiple contractor environment.
•    Worked in senior SHE role on a significant construction site.
•    Translated policies & standards into practical action plans.
•    Coached individuals and teams in different environments.
•    Held one or more line (or project) management positions.
•    Communicated effectively with different organisational levels.
•    Developed the project SHE Management Plans and implemented on site.
•    NEBOSH Construction – Preferred 
•    Lifting Operation certifications from within Construction Industry
