Position Summary
We have a great opportunity to join our HR Services team in York as a Compliance Advisor on a 12 month fixed‑term contract.
In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor and central point of contact for HR compliance activities across the market. You will support the business in meeting its data protection, audit and governance obligations, providing clear advice, managing complex compliance activities, and driving continuous improvement in how HR compliance is delivered.
Working closely with People Partners, HR Business Partners, the Data Protection Officer and wider HR stakeholders, you will play a key role in safeguarding sensitive employee data, ensuring robust governance, and embedding best practice across HR Services.
Your Impact
As a Compliance Advisor, you’ll provide expert support and guidance across a wide range of HR compliance activities, taking ownership of complex and sensitive matters and ensuring they are managed accurately, consistently and in line with regulatory requirements.
You’ll act as a key escalation point for HR compliance queries, build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, and use insight from audits, data breaches and subject access requests to identify opportunities for learning and improvement. You’ll also play an important role in strengthening governance, reducing risk, and supporting the business to operate compliantly and confidently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating internal and external HR audits, including planning, stakeholder alignment, preparation, audit delivery support and post‑audit actions.
- Acting as the central point of contact for HR compliance matters, providing advice and guidance to HR colleagues and stakeholders across the market.
- Managing and coordinating Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs), ensuring requests are handled accurately, sensitively and in line with regulatory requirements.
- Supporting the business with HR data protection matters, including acting as a first point of contact for advice on potential HR data breaches and contributing to preventative learning and improvements.
- Supporting conflict of interest governance, including reviewing declarations, applying judgement, maintaining records and advising on appropriate next steps where required.
- Delivering and supporting HR compliance communications and training activity, including GDPR refreshers and regular audit or compliance updates.
- Leading and contributing to improvement initiatives and projects, including supporting the transition to new tools or centralised solutions where applicable.
- Ensuring accurate records, trackers and registers are maintained to support transparency, assurance and effective reporting.
- Ensuring HR data access is managed and maintained in line with role requirements with robust governance in place.
- Providing insightful measures and insights on compliance topics to drive action and improvement.
