Position Summary
NPTC Confectionery York is Nestlé’s leading centre for confectionery Research & Development worldwide, working in partnership with 3 development centres in Chile, China and Ivory Coast. In York we are a team of 170 amazing people from over 30 nationalities and a variety of academia. We have a real focus on inclusion and belonging, an active Wellness program and we support over 50 factories globally. Our objective is to provide ideas, technical innovation and scientific support (for product, process and technology) to continually improve and grow the confectionery business. Supporting our aim of being world class in how confectionery and healthy snacks are developed, manufactured and packaged.

To support NPTC sustainability packaging ambitions we are currently recruiting for an Operational Packaging Manager to join the team. We are looking for an experienced senior packaging professional, who will play a pivotal role in leading, developing and deploying performance and base material standards across the Confectionery category. Working with a wide range of stakeholders you’ll identify and drive optimisation and harmonisation of initiatives whilst developing capability across the global network. This really is a fantastic and broad role that will see you work with many different markets and stakeholders to provide expert guidance and support on all things packaging across our Confectionery factories worldwide.
A day in the life of an Operational Packaging Manager...
You will be working in partnership with the wider packaging, engineering and operational teams to ensure alignment and the successful roll-out of packaging solution, including:
- Analysing data to propose and lead packaging projects and initiatives, driving for continuous improvement. Ensure activities are managed according to Nestlé standards and processes and are delivered on time within budget.
- Promoting knowledge capture and sharing through cross-fertilisation of packaging best practices between different factories and R&D sites worldwide.
- Continually develop stakeholder’s knowledge through identifying gaps and implementing training programs and tools that enhance our people’s capability in this space. We are looking for you to show real leadership and coaching skills working across a range of diverse stakeholders.
- Providing accurate and timely support to our operations teams, ensuring sustainable and cost-effective performance solutions are successfully deployed.
- Keeping up to date with the external environment and industry insight in this space to ensure Nestlé are at the forefront of world leading technology developments.
What will make you successful?
To be successful in this role you will qualified to degree level or higher, within a Packaging Technology or Engineering specialism (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical). Previous experience in a factory and/ operations role is essential and if you have experience of working across a blend of operations and R&D this would be desirable. We are looking for you to be passionate, proactive and results focused to drive our exciting packaging ambitions, acting as an ambassador for the Nestlé Confectionery brand across the globe. Being able to demonstrate leadership capability coupled with your ability to influence across a range of stakeholder groups internally and externally is key, as is knowing when to flex your style whilst working in an environment that can be, at times, ambiguous. You’ll also:
- Have the ability to communicate complex information effectively to stakeholders which instils credibility and trust.
- Be able to demonstrate a proven track record in packaging related technology development as well as successful project management and fantastic problem-solving skills.
- Have the ability to deal with ambiguous and complex problems to come to positive solutions.
