Position Summary
We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Workshop Manager to join us and manage our vehicle maintenance workshop in York.
As the Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and controls for Nestle's HGV vehicles, chocolate tankers and trailers.
Your primary objective will be to manage a team of technicians and ensure the smooth operations of our York workshops, whilst collaborating with third-party partners to ensure any off-site maintenance is completed within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and meets Nestle and DVSA requirements for roadworthiness.
A day in the life of a Workshop Manager
Your day to day responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Improve maintenance systems and controls in line with Nestle and DVSA requirements.
- Ensure compliance with DVSA regulations for roadworthiness of HGV vehicles and trailers, as well as health and safety legislation.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with third-party partners to achieve agreed SLAs.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of third-party partners, providing feedback and guidance as necessary.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with maintenance standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance arrangements and ensure they are declared as part of the Operator Licence in relevant Traffic Areas.
- Stay updated on industry best practices, regulations, and technological advancements related to HGV maintenance.
- Responsibility for the recruitment, management and training of all vehicle technicians.
- Be at the forefront of alternative fuel solutions and support the delivery of Net Zero targets
- Manage local budget and parts inventory.
What will make you successful
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Workshop Manager, Senior Technician, or in a similar leadership role within an HGV or commercial vehicle workshop.
- In-depth knowledge of both HGV fleet management and maintenance practices and DVSA regulations and requirements for roadworthiness
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience managing a diverse team of technicians and support staff.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices in a workshop environment.
- A valid HGV licence or relevant technical qualification (such as City & Guilds Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance) is desirable.
- Standard Transport Manager CPC Holder (advantageous)
