The Director of Strategy is a critical leadership role responsible for driving and implementing key growth initiatives through portfolio, strategy, and business model incubation. Reporting to the Division President for Pizza and Snacking but playing an equal role to the Meals Division President, this role will frame and guide strategic transformation for the entire Frozen Organization. Key responsibilities include developing clear and compelling portfolio strategies, guiding intentional portfolio management and optimization, spearheading end-to-end initiatives, and driving strategic revenue management. The Director of Strategy will also lead transformational accelerators, oversee M&A and brand licensing activities, monitor market trends, and lead project management and development of key strategic presentations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Portfolio Strategy and Optimization
- Develop clear and compelling portfolio strategies to unlock category white spaces and drive profitable growth
- Monitor and evaluate progress of strategic initiatives and portfolio evolution, guiding adjustments as necessary
- Assess and develop new business models for the portfolio
End-to-End Initiatives, Market Analysis
- Spearhead end-to-end initiatives throughout the value chain to improve operating profit
- Conduct research and analysis of industry trends, market conditions, and competitive landscape to identify potential opportunities and threats
Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align the long-term strategy with the overall mission and objectives of the broader Nestle organization
- Coordinate inputs, develop and communicate the long-term division strategic plans i.e., Market Business Strategy (MBS) and Zone Execution plan (ZEP)
- Guide the integrated business planning cycle for the division in alignment with corporate strategic planning routines
- Mobilize cross-functional/divisional teams to execute transformational initiatives
- Lead M&A and brand licensing activities, including market assessments, target identification, and integration
- Ensure seamless coordination and alignment of short, medium, and long-term plans across the Meals Division and Pizza & Snacking Division. Enroll key stakeholders throughout the process.
Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams internally to ensure alignment and coordination of key strategic initiatives.
- Lead delivery of division-wide and category-wide strategic projects
- Establish operating routines for planning, communication, and prioritization at Division Leadership Team meetings and monthly business reviews.
- Act as a key participant in the NUSA Strategy Network, actively contributing to the development and dissemination of initiatives that have an impact on the Frozen Division Teams.
Capability Development
- Develop, implement and incorporate key enterprise-wide and Frozen specific capabilities to enhance the skills and knowledge including SRM, One Planning, key ELT priorities.
- Act as the driving force behind transformational initiatives such as One Planning and Big Bet Innovation
Talent Management
- Lead by example to motivate and inspire direct reports and cross-functional teams supporting the strategy to exceed high performance targets
- Actively communicate expectations and provide regular feedback against those expectations through a robust performance management process, working with each team member to evaluate performance, provide feedback and training
- Work with direct reports to build appropriate development plans and coach team to ensure that the training activities achieve mutual, agreed upon objectives
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Typically has a University Degree (BA/BS) in Communications, business, or related field.
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred with people leadership experience and CPG industry knowledge.
- Strong financial proficiency and proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills to understand calculating risk/return on business decision.
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills.
- Strong research and strategic analysis skills and the ability to generate insights from data and trends.
- Ability to work independently, autonomously and adapt quickly to change to deliver results.
- Possess exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong interpersonal abilities, and a talent for storytelling to effectively influence others.
- Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
- Demonstrate a strong ability to manage pace, prioritize tasks effectively, and operate efficiently within a fast-paced environment
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end (E2E) full value chain.
CRITICAL EXPERIENCES:
- 7-10 years of experience in strategic planning and commercialization strategies.
- Experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams utilizing strong negotiation and relationship building skills.
- Experience in strategic planning, project management, and change management.
- Experience leveraging data, research and trends to generate insights to understand consumer behavior (IRI or Nielsen knowledge strongly recommended) including Foresight.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with the ability to develop creative/non-traditional solutions for challenging, undefined problems.
